New Motorhome and Campervan Restrictions in Saltburn from July 6
New Motorhome Rules in Saltburn from July 6

Motorhomes and campervans will face new restrictions on Marine Parade in Saltburn, Redcar and Cleveland, starting Monday, July 6. The measures aim to balance the needs of residents and visitors, allowing limited parking while preventing long-term occupancy.

Parking Rules and Time Limits

Motorhomes can park only in marked bays on the north side of Marine Parade, with a maximum stay of four hours. They are prohibited at all times from unmarked sections of the road. No new parking charges are being introduced, but residents living on Marine Parade between Garnet Street and Saltburn Road can apply for parking permits.

Council Feedback and Experimental Order

Cllr Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "We have listened to feedback from both householders in Saltburn and motorhome owners who wish to spend time visiting the town. The new restrictions will provide an area for motorhomes to park while introducing a time limit on how long they can stay, helping to ensure parking spaces remain available for residents and visitors alike."

The measures are being introduced as an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO), meaning the council will monitor the impact and consider feedback before deciding on the long-term future of the scheme.

Definitions and Disabled Parking

Under Regulation 2(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Type Approval) (Great Britain) Regulations 1979, a motor caravan is defined as: “A motor vehicle which is constructed or adapted for the carriage of passengers and their effects, and which contains, as permanently installed equipment, the facilities which are reasonably necessary for enabling the vehicle to provide mobile living accommodation for its users.”

No disabled parking bays are being removed as part of the proposal. Disabled badge holders can park in the council’s car parks free of charge. On Marine Parade, disabled badge holders will be permitted to park in the marked bays for four hours during restricted periods and unlimited on Sundays and after 5pm. Disabled badge holders other than motorhomes can also park in areas with the motorhome restriction in place as indicated by a single yellow line.
