Free bike checks and ice cream at Darwin Green event

A special summer holiday event in Cambridge will help local families get their bicycles ready for summer adventures. The free gathering at the Darwin Green development will offer safety checks and sweet treats for young cyclists.

Free checks and ice cream for young cyclists

Two expert mechanics will be on hand to check over bikes and ensure everything is running safely. The event takes place on August 15, 2026, from 11am to 3pm, with ice cream available from 12pm to 2pm. It will be held adjacent to the country park at Darwin Green, Cambridge, and entry is free.

Youngsters waiting for their safety check can enjoy a complimentary ice cream during the afternoon. Anyone whose bike needs further repairs will also receive a handy voucher to use at Halfords.

Community focus at Darwin Green

Will Phair, sales director, said: “With our Darwin Green development having the 15-acre country park on our residents’ doorsteps, we wanted to host this event here so the community can enjoy their bikes during the summer.”

Jason Hearn, sales director, added: “We encourage anyone eager to make the most of the cycling opportunities this summer to come along and make sure that their gear is up to the challenge.”

The event arrives at a perfect time for families making the most of the school break outdoors. It offers a great chance to dust off old bicycles that may have fallen out of use over recent months.

Encouraging greener travel

Recent studies suggest millions of bicycles across the UK are currently sitting unused in sheds and garages. Bringing these bikes along to a quick check-up can help local residents embrace a healthier and greener way to travel.

The surrounding neighbourhood features direct foot and cycle paths that connect residents straight into the city centre. Families can also make use of local community spaces, shops, and a nearby library.

A variety of new homes are currently available at the development, with options starting from £349,995. Anyone interested in finding out more about the new homes in the area can visit the local websites.
