Aldi Expands EV Charging to 250 Stores with Drax

Aldi is enhancing its car parks for shoppers by expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities at over 250 stores across the UK. The supermarket chain has partnered with renewable energy company Drax to upgrade approximately 1,200 EV chargers, providing customers with a quick and convenient way to charge their cars while grocery shopping.

Stores Benefiting from New Charging Facilities

Stores now equipped with the upgraded chargers include Aldi's Diss store in Norfolk, as well as locations in Eastbourne, Durham, and Yate near Bristol. As part of its ongoing expansion plans, Aldi will also install chargers at around 20 new stores each year, offering a mix of fast and rapid chargers to suit different journey needs.

Pricing and Payment Options

Charging is competitively priced at 40p per kWh for fast charging and 62p per kWh for rapid charging. Customers can check availability, view costs, and pay through the Charge Assist app or use contactless card payment with no subscription required.

Commitment to Sustainability

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: "We're committed to making sustainable choices more accessible for our customers, and we know many are looking for affordable, reliable and convenient ways to charge their cars. By expanding EV charging at more of our stores, we're helping to make that easier – and offering great-value charging while they shop."

The expansion reinforces Aldi's long-term commitment to sustainability and supports the UK's transition to electric vehicles, with the government targeting the end of new petrol and diesel car sales by 2030. Aldi competes with other major retailers such as Sainsbury's, Lidl, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Iceland, and Co-op.
