Drivers with private driveways can save £435 a year on electric vehicle charging under a new tariff launching Monday, courtesy of a partnership between E.ON Next and myenergi. The Next Drive Smart tariff offers an ultra-low rate of 8p per kilowatt-hour (kWh) across the entire home from midnight to 6am, plus additional off-peak charging slots during the day when scheduled via the E.ON Next app.
How the Savings Work
Based on 8,000 miles of annual driving, customers on Next Drive Smart could cut their charging costs by up to £435 compared to the standard variable rate. The overnight rate applies to all household electricity use, not just EV charging, meaning households can also run appliances like washing machines or dishwashers cheaply.
Once customers plug in their vehicle and set preferences in the E.ON Next Home app, the system automatically schedules charging during the cheapest periods. The tariff is compatible with myenergi's zappi charger, which communicates with the grid to access off-peak rates without manual monitoring.
Partnership Delivers Seamless Experience
Steve Davies, director of strategy and commercial at E.ON Next, said: 'With Next Drive Smart, plugging in at home unlocks cheaper electricity for longer across the home. Our partnership with myenergi means customers with a compatible zappi charger and the E.ON Next app can automatically access off-peak rates at other times when grid capacity is available - with no monitoring, no manual scheduling and no extra effort.'

Installation and Eligibility
EV drivers who do not yet have a compatible charger can install one through E.ON Next, which offers a complete service covering product selection, professional installation, and flexible payment options. The tariff is available from Monday for existing myenergi zappi owners and new customers alike.
The initiative is part of a broader push to shift EV charging to off-peak times, easing strain on the national grid and reducing costs for consumers. With nearly a third of UK households having off-street parking, the tariff could significantly lower the total cost of EV ownership.
