EON Announces Major Savings for Electric Vehicle Owners with Driveways

EON has issued a significant update for households enrolled in its Next Drive Smart and Next Drive Fixed tariffs, offering substantial financial benefits for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. This move comes amid ongoing energy price uncertainty linked to global events such as the Iran War, providing a welcome relief for consumers.

Substantial Annual Savings on EV Charging

According to EON, customers charging their EVs overnight can achieve notable savings compared to the new Energy Price Cap. Specifically, those on the Next Drive Smart tariff can save an average of £117 per year, while Next Drive Fixed customers can save £59 annually. These savings are exclusively available to households with their own chargers, meaning residents must have driveways to qualify.

Detailed Tariff Rates and Features

The Next Drive Smart v5.9 tariff features two distinct rates: an off-peak rate of 8.5p/kWh from 12am to 6am, and a day rate of 30.87p/kWh from 6am to 12am. Similarly, the Next Drive Fixed v17 offers an off-peak rate of 9.5p/kWh during the same overnight hours, with a day rate of 32.37p/kWh. These off-peak rates apply not only to EV charging but also to whole-home electricity use, maximizing potential savings.

Additional Benefits and Flexibility

Beyond the core savings, EON has included several extra perks for customers who sign up. The tariffs come with no exit fees, providing flexibility if personal circumstances change. Additionally, enrollees receive a free one-year subscription to Zoom EV, an online platform offering discounts on public charging, parking, car hire, and more. EON also makes a one-off donation to the Woodland Trust, supporting the restoration of the UK's ancient woodlands.

Eligibility and Usage Guidelines

To benefit from these tariffs, customers must have an eligible electric vehicle and charger. The off-peak rate of 8.5p/kWh is consistently applied unless a boost charge is initiated or smart charging features are not used during peak hours, in which case the peak rate will be billed. This information was correct as of March 4, ensuring transparency for potential applicants.
