Kia EV4 & PV5 Now Eligible for £1,500 UK Electric Car Grant
Kia Models Get £1,500 UK Electric Car Grant

Kia has announced a significant boost for UK electric vehicle buyers, confirming that two of its latest models are now eligible for a major government discount scheme.

Grant Slashes Prices for Key Kia EVs

The Korean automaker confirmed that both the new EV4 and PV5 Passenger electric vehicles will benefit from the Labour government's £1.9 billion Electric Car Grant. The initiative is designed to make the switch to electric power more affordable for British drivers.

As a result, customers purchasing eligible models will see a direct £1,500 reduction on the purchase price. Kia has stated that all variants of the stylish EV4 saloon are included in the scheme. For the innovative PV5, the grant applies to the Passenger Essential and Passenger Plus trim levels.

Kia Hails "Milestone" for Electric Mobility

Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, welcomed the move. "We are delighted that Kia customers can now benefit from the UK Government's Electric Car Grant," he said.

"This milestone demonstrates our commitment to making electric mobility accessible, practical, and affordable. With the support of the grant, even more drivers can experience the innovation, reliability, and sustainability that Kia electric vehicles have become known for."

Philpott noted the timing is crucial, coinciding with the roll-out of Kia's nationwide network of PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle) Centres, which are now operational and delivering the award-winning PV5 to customers.

UK Stays Firm as EU Relaxes Emissions Rules

This development comes amid a shifting regulatory landscape in Europe. The European Commission recently announced a new "automotive package" that provides carmakers with more flexibility in meeting emissions targets.

While manufacturers must still cut emissions by 90% by 2035, the revised approach has cast some doubt on the UK's steadfast commitment to its original 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars.

Industry leaders are urging the UK government to hold its course. Vicky Read, chief executive of charging infrastructure group ChargeUK, stated: "This does not change the fact that the transition to electric vehicles is happening."

She warned that "any move to reopen the UK's Zero Emission Vehicle mandate would be a major overreaction and would put investment in charging infrastructure at risk."

The Kia grant eligibility provides a tangible incentive for consumers, directly supporting the UK's broader goal of accelerating electric vehicle adoption ahead of the 2035 deadline.
