The UK Government has significantly expanded its flagship electric vehicle support scheme, adding a new model to the list of cars eligible for a substantial purchase discount.
More Choice for EV Buyers
Ministers from the Labour government have confirmed an extension to the £650 million Electric Car Grant programme. This update means the Citroën e-C5 Aircross Long Range is now eligible, allowing consumers to save £3,750 directly off the price of this new electric vehicle.
Keir Mather, the Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation Minister, praised the move. He stated that the expansion is actively helping to put money back into people's pockets while simultaneously increasing the options available to British drivers looking to make the switch to electric.
Industry Welcomes Government Support
The automotive industry has responded positively to the grant's extension. Greg Taylor, Managing Director at Citroën UK, highlighted the significance of the e-C5 Aircross Long Range's inclusion.
He emphasised that it is the first vehicle of its specific size and type to receive the full grant amount, calling it a "testament to the hard work of the team at Citroën" in creating practical cars for all. Taylor also welcomed the government's support in making the transition to electric transport more attainable for UK motorists.
