Electric vehicle drivers across the United Kingdom are poised for a significant boost as the prominent campaign group FairCharge intensifies its demands for a "safe and reliable" national charging infrastructure. The organisation, which advocates for electric vehicle (EV) owners, has announced a key leadership change following the passing of its esteemed founder, former BBC Top Gear presenter Quentin Willson.
A New Voice for the EV Revolution
FairCharge has confirmed that Warren Ryan Philips will assume the role of campaign lead, steering the group's mission to support motorists navigating the transition to electric mobility. Philips steps into a position previously held by Quentin Willson, whose advocacy was widely recognised as instrumental in prioritising the needs of everyday drivers.
In his inaugural statement, Mr Philips expressed his commitment to the cause, stating: "Quentin was one of the strongest voices we had for everyday drivers in the electric transition. FairCharge exists because charging must work in the real world, on real streets, for real people. It's an honour to take stewardship of FairCharge to make sure motorists get the fair, safe, reliable, transparent charging network they deserve."

The appointment has garnered strong endorsement from key figures within the electric vehicle sector. Vicky Edmonds, Chief Executive Officer of EVA England, highlighted the critical role FairCharge has played. "We are delighted that Warren can carry on that mission, and bring together that powerful campaign voice with EVA England's work, to influence decision making at the heart of Government and ensure that EVs work for everyone - no matter their personal circumstances," she remarked.
Further support came from Tanya Sinclair, CEO of EVUK, who noted: "As the charging network expands and adoption continues to grow, I am delighted that Warren will lead FairCharge's vital work." Ben Kilbey, founder of Bold Voodoo, described Philips as a "proper people's champion" who would diligently work for the benefit of all motorists and road users.
Local Council Initiatives Align with National Goals
This national leadership development coincides with local government action to expand charging infrastructure. For instance, Elmbridge Council has announced plans to support cleaner travel and enhance sustainability within the borough by significantly expanding its network of electric vehicle charging points.
The council's strategy involves building upon existing provisions in council-owned pay and display car parks, with a rolling programme of new installations scheduled across the area. The next phase of this expansion is anticipated to be completed by the summer of 2026, making it more convenient for both residents and visitors to make the switch to electric vehicles.
