The M5 motorway near Birmingham is set to close overnight for nine nights over the next two weeks to allow for essential resurfacing work. The northbound carriageway will be shut between Junction 4, serving Birmingham south west and Stourbridge, and Junction 3, for Birmingham west, central, and Kidderminster.
Closure Schedule
The closures will take place from 9pm to 6am each night. The first set runs from Monday, April 27, to Friday, May 1. After a break for the Bank Holiday weekend, closures resume from Tuesday, May 5, to Friday, May 8, ending at 6am on Saturday, May 9. No closure will occur on Monday, May 4.
Diversion Route
Northbound traffic will be diverted via the A491 to Hagley in Worcestershire, then back to Junction 3 of the M5, passing near the base of the Black Country and Halesowen. National Highways advises that Frankley Services will be closed during the overnight closures. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
National Highways stated: “We’re completing resurfacing work on the M5 near Birmingham from tonight until Friday, May 8. For safety, we'll fully close the northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 3 overnight on weekdays.”
