Asda is set to transform its online shopping service through a major partnership with Ocado from 2027. The supermarket giant will replace its current online delivery systems with Ocado's advanced technology platform, upgrading Asda's website, app, in-store picking, and home delivery operations.
Key Details of the Partnership
Asda executive chairman Allan Leighton said: 'Partnering with Ocado will strengthen our online offer and provide a consistent and high-quality experience for millions of shoppers, from order through to delivery.'
Ocado Group chief executive Tim Steiner welcomed the deal, stating they were 'delighted that Asda has chosen Ocado to support the next phase of their online growth.' He highlighted the UK's competitive online grocery market where technology and innovation are crucial.
Global Reach and Market Impact
Ocado already handles 70 million orders annually across 11 countries globally. Investment experts described the partnership as 'much-needed good news' for Ocado after challenging times. They believe it could help Asda compete more effectively against rivals Tesco and Sainsbury's.
Asda will maintain full control over pricing, product range, and online operations despite the technology partnership.
