State pensioners will notice a change to their Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) payments on Monday morning, as funds will not arrive in bank accounts as usual due to the bank holiday weekend.
Payment Schedule Adjustment
Payments originally scheduled for Monday, May 4, have been brought forward to Friday, May 1. Similarly, payments due on Monday, May 25, will be made on Friday, May 22. This adjustment applies to a range of benefits, including the new and basic state pension.
Who Is Affected?
The change impacts individuals with National Insurance numbers ending in 00 to 19, as their payment date aligns with the digits of their NI number under DWP rules. Those with payments due on the affected Mondays will receive them on the preceding Friday.
Benefits Affected
In addition to the state pension, the following benefits are rescheduled: Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Employment Support Allowance (ESA), Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Pension Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and Universal Credit. HMRC payments, including Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance, are also affected.
Scottish Benefits
In Scotland, payments due on a bank holiday are typically made earlier. Affected Scottish benefits include Adult Disability Payment, Carer Support Payment, Child Disability Payment, Pension Age Disability Payment, Scottish Child Payment, and Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance. Best Start Foods payments are not affected.
The DWP states: “Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you’ll usually be paid on the working day before.”
