EasyJet passengers are expressing frustration after facing a £49 fee for cancelling a booking. The airline, which operates flights from Birmingham, has responded to queries on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Passenger's Complaint
A social media user named Igor contacted EasyJet on X, explaining: "I accidentally cancelled a booking on mobile and rebooked the same flight within minutes (EJU8527). Charged £49 cancellation fee despite no change or loss. Can this be reviewed as goodwill?"
Airline's Response
In reply, EasyJet confirmed it could not waive the fee. The airline stated: "Hi Igor, thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you accidentally cancelled your booking and were charged a cancellation fee of £49. Unfortunately, this cannot be reviewed as a goodwill gesture. Please see our cancellation policy here."
Cancellation Policy Details
EasyJet's cancellation rules specify that flight times are not guaranteed except as per the airline's terms or applicable law. The policy states: "We are not responsible for errors or omissions in timetables or other information released by third parties about the dates or times or operation of any flight."
The airline reserves the right to change schedules, cancel, divert, deny boarding, or delay any flight for safety, regulatory, commercial, or operational reasons. If a cancellation or significant change occurs, EasyJet will contact the booker using the provided contact details. The booker is responsible for informing other passengers.
The rules governing cancellations, delays, and denied boarding are set out in the Montreal Convention, APR 2019, and EU Regulation 261. Passengers' rights under applicable law are unaffected by these terms.
