Midlands Towns Near Heatwave as Temperatures Set to Rise

New weather charts have revealed that parts of the Midlands could near mini-heatwave conditions later this month. Temperature maps from WX Charts have turned shades of yellow and orange for the date of Friday, May 22. According to wxcharts.com, the mercury across England will hover between the low to mid-20s that day.

West Midlands Temperature Forecast

In the West Midlands, places like Birmingham and the Black Country could see the temperature rise to 23C. Nearby towns in Staffordshire, such as Lichfield and Tamworth, could see the mercury rise to 24C. That would only be 1C off the 25C threshold that signifies a heatwave occurring in parts of the United Kingdom. Heatwaves usually need to last for three consecutive days. However, the upcoming temperatures have only been forecast to arrive for one day, meaning conditions could feel closer to a 'mini heatwave'.

Met Office Long-Range Forecast

In its long-range forecast from May 18 to 27, the Met Office said: "Changeable conditions look to dominate at first, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy and more focussed across northwestern areas. Drier interludes are also expected, most especially across southeastern UK. As this period progresses, high pressure is likely to begin to build from the south bringing more settled weather, although with occasional showers. Temperatures near-normal to begin, but tending to recover as the period progresses, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period, especially in the south. Winds will be stronger during the first part of the period, generally from a south-westerly direction, before becoming lighter in line with the more settled conditions."
