Drivers in Wolverhampton are waiting an average of three months between booking and taking a driving test, new data has revealed. Motorists looking to snap up a test and get their wheels on the road are looking at a median wait time of 13.6 weeks between putting their name down for a test and actually taking it at the Wolverhampton test site, June stats from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) revealed.
Comparison with Dudley and National Average
This figure was slightly higher than Dudley's test centre, which stood at a 15.4 week median wait time between booking a test and getting out on the road with an examiner. Nationally, the median wait time for Great Britain stands at 10.7 weeks. This means Wolverhampton's wait is nearly three weeks longer than the national average.
DVSA Spokesperson Comments
A DVSA spokesperson said: “The public deserve to know how the car driving test service is really performing. Our latest data shows the median waiting time for Great Britain was 10.7 weeks in June 2026, which means half of learners waited less than this and half waited longer. Test slot availability was at its highest point since November 2024 and the pass rate remains above 50 per cent. Since June 2025, we have conducted over quarter of a million extra car driving tests. Our changes to the booking system also mean it is now against the law for third parties to book tests for someone else, tackling those who sought to hoover up tests to resell at inflated prices.”
Additional Data and Changes
Figures shared by the DVSA also highlight that in Wolverhampton, it takes 24 weeks until 10 per cent or more of weekly appointments are available to book. The DVSA shared it has conducted 278,124 more tests between June 2025 and June 2026 than over the same period the previous year, with the driving test pass rate also being the highest level in over five years (51.5 per cent). It is understood since measures announced in November 2025, there have been changes put in place to help learners book a practical driving test and make changes to their own booking. The three changes to how learners book and manage tests now state a maximum of two changes only can be made to a booking, only learners are permitted to book a practical driving test and make changes to their own booking, and learners can move their booked test only to a nearby test centre.
