Motorists and residents in Frant, East Sussex, are being advised of a significant road closure set to disrupt local travel for potentially up to 18 months. Down Lane (U7544) will be shut to through traffic to allow South East Water to carry out essential utility works.
Key Dates and Details of the Closure
The temporary prohibition of traffic is being implemented by East Sussex County Council under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The formal order, known as The East Sussex (U7544 Down Lane, Frant) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026, was publicised in the Kent & Sussex Courier and on the Public Notice Portal on December 26, 2025.
The closure will affect the full length of Down Lane, near postcode TN3 9DX. The works are scheduled to commence on January 13, 2026. While the core work is anticipated to be completed between January 13 and 15, the order permits a maximum duration of up to 18 months from the start date, or until the works finish, whichever is sooner.
Access Arrangements and Safety Measures
During the closure period, a safe route for pedestrians will be provided at all times. The council and contractor have also stated that vehicular access for residents and to properties will be maintained wherever it is possible to do so safely.
Other road users will need to follow any on-street traffic management and signed diversion routes that are put in place. Drivers, particularly those making local journeys, school runs, or deliveries, should expect disruption and are urged to allow extra time for travel and consider using alternative routes on surrounding roads.
