West Midlands Police have reported that a serious collision in Birmingham city centre has led to significant delays and road closures on Great Charles St Queensway. The incident, which occurred at around 2:35 am on July 13, 2026, involved a single car at the junction of Great Charles Street Queensway and St Chads Queensway.
Partial Reopening and Ongoing Delays
By mid-morning, the inbound carriageway of Great Charles St Queensway had reopened, and the outbound carriageway was expected to reopen by 9 am. However, motorists are still advised to seek alternative routes due to persistent delays. Traffic information company Inrix described the incident as serious, while West Midlands Roads confirmed that emergency services were in attendance and that significant delays of over 30 minutes were being experienced on various approaches.
The closure has caused traffic to back up to M6 Junction 6 and A38 Bristol Street towards Belgrave Middleway, and the A4540 ring road has also been affected.
Impact on Public Transport
Several bus services, including the 7, 16, 101, 52, 9, X10, and 74, are expected to be impacted by the ongoing incident. Passengers are advised to check for updates and allow extra travel time.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Birmingham's Great Charles St Queensway has partially re-opened this morning as investigations into a serious collision continue.
