DVLA Launches 'Nobody Wins' Campaign as 150,000 Vehicles Face Clamping
DVLA Campaign Targets 150,000 Untaxed Vehicles

DVLA's 'Nobody Wins' Campaign Aims to Tackle Untaxed Vehicles Nationwide

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has initiated a significant enforcement drive, compelling approximately 150,000 untaxed vehicles off UK roads as part of a renewed crackdown. This action is central to the agency's freshly launched 'Nobody Wins' campaign, which seeks to heighten awareness among motorists, road users, and drivers about the critical importance of adhering to vehicle taxation regulations.

Creative Campaign Features 'Clampy' to Highlight Consequences

At the heart of this initiative is a novel creative concept led by 'Clampy', a personified talking wheel clamp designed to convey the disruption and real-world repercussions faced by drivers who neglect their vehicle tax obligations. The campaign underscores that while an overwhelming 98.7% of motorists pay their vehicle tax promptly, more than 150,000 vehicles were still clamped across the UK in 2025 alone, according to DVLA warnings.

The advertisements, which will be disseminated through outdoor, audio, and online channels until 31 March 2026, emphasise the ease and convenience of taxing vehicles online. The DVLA stresses that this process is quick and straightforward, urging drivers not to take unnecessary risks by delaying payments.

Enforcement Measures and Partnership Schemes

DVLA enforcement teams, in collaboration with wheelclamping partners, conduct daily operations nationwide to take decisive action against untaxed vehicles. Additionally, under the DVLA's Devolved Power Partner scheme, certain local authorities and police forces are authorised to clamp vehicles, further extending the reach of these enforcement efforts.

Tim Moss CBE, Chief Executive of the DVLA, commented on the campaign, stating, 'Most drivers maintain their vehicle tax up to date, but failing to tax your vehicle on time can lead to significant consequences. We provide reminders to motorists when their vehicle tax is due and only resort to clamping as a last measure.'

He further advised, 'Having your vehicle clamped is entirely avoidable, as taxing your vehicle is a quick and easy task. Opting for Direct Debit payments can also help ensure timely renewals and allow for cost spreading if preferred.'

The 'Nobody Wins' campaign serves as a stark reminder of the legal and practical implications of non-compliance, aiming to reduce the number of untaxed vehicles on UK roads and promote safer, more responsible driving practices.
