A motorist has died following a collision involving three lorries and a car on the M6 in Staffordshire. The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16, near Stoke-on-Trent, at approximately 4:10am on Monday, August 17.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of one of the lorries was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Motorway Closure and Delays
The motorway was closed for most of the day, including the evening rush hour, causing significant disruption. At 4pm, there were delays of up to 75 minutes and tailbacks of six miles.
Staffordshire Police have confirmed that the car driver, a man, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Police Appeal for Information
The force is appealing for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the area at the time to come forward. In a statement, police said: "A man has sadly died following a collision on the M6. We were called at 4.10am today (Monday 17 August) to the M6 northbound between junctions 15 and 16 following reports of a collision involving three lorries and a car."
"The driver of the car, a man, sadly died at the scene. His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers. The driver of one of the lorries, a man, has been taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing at this time."
