An 'epic' storm struck Birmingham and the Black Country in the early hours of the morning, bringing flashes of lightning and heavy showers that persisted between around 1.30am and 3.30am.

The storm followed a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms issued by the Met Office. It came after days of hot weather, with temperatures reaching 30C and above in the latest heatwave to affect the country.
Forecast for Today
According to the Met Office, today will start dry and sunny, with a very warm afternoon ahead. However, the sunshine will turn increasingly hazy later on, and an isolated heavy shower may be possible. Breezy conditions are expected, with a maximum temperature of 30C.
Tonight is forecast to be mostly dry with plenty of clear spells, though some low cloud may develop over the hills during the early hours. It will stay mild, with a minimum temperature of 11C.
The Met Office also predicts a high of 31C in London on Thursday, while the Midlands and North West are expected to see highs of 28C.
