Four people have been killed and five others taken to hospital following a devastating early-hours collision in Bolton. The incident involved a red Seat Leon and a Citroen C4 Picasso.

Details of the fatal collision

Greater Manchester Police were called to Wigan Road in Bolton at approximately 12.45am on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Officers discovered a serious collision between the two vehicles.

Tragically, the driver of the Seat Leon and two passengers in that vehicle were pronounced dead. The driver of the Citroen C4 Picasso was also killed at the scene.

Five other passengers sustained injuries in the crash. They were all transported to hospital, where they remain receiving treatment for their wounds.

Police investigation and witness appeal

The force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) has launched a full inquiry into the circumstances that led to the fatal crash. A scene remained in place for several hours as forensic officers gathered evidence.

Police are now urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward. A spokesperson for GMP said: "Our serious collision investigation unit are appealing for information and witnesses for further information following this fatal collision."

The appeal extends to anyone who may have seen either vehicle being driven prior to the incident, witnessed the crash itself, or who has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around that time.
