Fuel Shortage Hits West Midlands: Tesco and Sainsbury's Stations Close in Wolverhampton
Fuel Shortage Closes Tesco and Sainsbury's Stations in Wolverhampton

Fuel Shortage Forces Closure of Two Major Wolverhampton Petrol Stations

Drivers in Wolverhampton faced significant disruptions on Sunday afternoon as two key city petrol stations closed due to fuel shortages. The Tesco Superstore on Marston Road and the Sainsbury’s Superstore on Raglan Street, both typically busy forecourts, were left empty and inaccessible to motorists.

At the Tesco location, the forecourt was completely closed to traffic, with cones blocking the entrance. Signs on the pumps indicated they were out of use for both unleaded and diesel fuel. A notice posted at the site read, “Our Forecourt is currently closed. Our store is open as normal while we work on getting everything back up and running.”

Sainsbury's Also Affected by Supply Issues

Similarly, the Sainsbury’s petrol station displayed “No Fuel” signs and had its front entrance coned off. Pumps were tagged with “Sorry, Out of Use” notices, and a sign informed customers, “Sorry, we have no fuel at the moment and are awaiting our next delivery.” This closure has reduced fuel options for local drivers, compounding challenges during the ongoing fuel crisis.

Both stations have been among the most affordable in the region recently. Tesco was selling unleaded at 141.9p per litre, super unleaded for 150.9p, and diesel at 167.9p. Sainsbury’s offered unleaded at 142.9p, super unleaded at 154.9p, and diesel at 168.9p per litre.

Supermarkets Monitoring Stock Levels

Sainsbury’s has not provided specific comments on the Wolverhampton location but confirmed that they are actively monitoring stock levels across their business to resupply stations as needed. Tesco has also been contacted for a statement regarding the closure and any plans to restore fuel availability.

The closures highlight broader supply chain issues affecting fuel distribution in the West Midlands. Residents are advised to check local updates and consider alternative fueling options until normal service resumes at these popular supermarket forecourts.
