Three young men have tragically lost their lives in a devastating multi-vehicle collision in Halifax, with a fourth occupant fighting for his life in hospital. The incident, described as a "horror crash," occurred on Keighley Road in Illingworth, Halifax, shortly before 7pm on Wednesday evening.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The collision involved three vehicles: a Ford Fiesta, a BMW, and a stationary Renault Clio. The victims, a 21-year-old and two men aged 22, were all travelling in the Ford Fiesta and were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth occupant of the Fiesta, also aged 21, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.
Arrests and Police Investigation
West Yorkshire Police have arrested three individuals on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Those arrested include a 37-year-old man and two women, aged 18 and 32, all from Halifax, who were travelling in the BMW. They remain in police custody as collision investigators continue their extensive inquiries at the scene.
The road remains closed while forensic teams work to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. Detective Sergeant Paul Lightowler of the Major Collision Enquiry Team expressed his condolences, stating, "Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the people who died. Specially trained officers will be supporting the families involved. This is a tragic incident and extensive enquiries are ongoing at the scene this morning."
Appeal for Witnesses and Information
Police are urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward. Detective Sergeant Lightowler added, "I would like to appeal to anyone who was travelling in the area yesterday evening who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. We are also keen to see any dash-cam footage of the vehicles prior to the collision."
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that officers were called at 6.50pm on March 18 to reports of the collision at the junction of Keighley Road and Cobblestones Drive. The stationary Renault Clio was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
