Major Birmingham Route Blocked After Morning Collision

A significant crash caused the closure of a key Birmingham commuter route during the busy morning rush hour on Tuesday, November 18. The A4540 Lawley Middleway, a vital ring road connecting Digbeth and Bordesley Green, was shut in both directions following the incident.

Police Response and Road Closure Details

West Midlands Police were called to the scene and confirmed they were dealing with a collision. A force spokesperson stated, "We're currently at the scene of a collision in Lawley Middleway. Officers are at the scene carrying out enquiries and drivers are advised to find alternate routes."

The road was completely closed between Garrison Circus and Curzon Circus, causing a major disruption for thousands of morning commuters. Police indicated they could not provide further updates at that initial stage.

Widespread Travel Disruption and Official Warnings

The closure led to long delays and heavy congestion in the surrounding area. Official traffic monitoring service Inrix reported the road was blocked in both directions due to the police incident, with traffic building from Great Barr Street to Vauxhall Road.

West Midlands Roads issued a stark warning to drivers on social media platform X, advising of the northbound closure on the anti-clockwise ring road. Their post urged motorists to "allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible."

Authorities repeatedly emphasised the need for drivers to find other paths for their travel while emergency services and investigators worked at the scene.
