A lorry crashed into a bus shelter in Bridgnorth on Wednesday morning, leading to a road closure and significant damage to the shelter. The incident occurred on the A458 in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, at around 7:30 am.
Details of the crash
The lorry, which was traveling along the A458, struck the bus shelter located near the junction with the B4363. The impact destroyed the shelter, scattering debris across the road. Emergency services, including West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Mercia Police, attended the scene.
According to a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service, no injuries were reported. The driver of the lorry was checked at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.
Road closure and impact
The A458 was closed in both directions between the B4363 junction and the A442 for several hours while cleanup and investigation work took place. Diversions were put in place, causing delays for motorists. The road reopened later in the morning.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called at 7:38 am to reports of a lorry that had collided with a bus shelter on the A458 in Bridgnorth. The road was closed to allow for recovery of the vehicle and to make the scene safe. No injuries were reported."
Investigation underway
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Initial reports suggest that the lorry may have suffered a mechanical issue, but this has not been confirmed. The bus shelter will need to be replaced, and the local council has been informed.
Residents in the area expressed concern about the incident, with some noting that the bus shelter is frequently used by school children. However, no children were present at the time of the crash.
