Drivers on the M54 motorway are facing significant delays this Wednesday after a serious multi-vehicle collision involving a heavy goods vehicle left a central barrier badly damaged.
Late-Night Collision Causes Major Damage
The incident occurred at approximately 11.50pm on Tuesday, November 25, between junction 2 for Wolverhampton and junction 3 for Albrighton. According to West Midlands Ambulance Service, they were alerted by police at 11.49pm to a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles near Brewood.
A substantial emergency response was dispatched, including two ambulances, two paramedic officers, and a critical care car from the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. Crews arrived to find a HGV that had crashed through the central reservation.
Ongoing Repairs and Travel Impact
As of Wednesday afternoon, repair work is still ongoing, nearly twelve hours after the initial crash. National Highways West Midlands confirmed that one lane remains closed in both directions to allow for these essential safety repairs.
In an update posted on X at 11.25am today, the agency stated: "Reminder 1 lane remains closed, both ways, on #M54 in #Shropshire btwn J2 #Wolverhampton and J3 #Albrighton, due to barrier damage following a serious collision involving an HGV."
Injuries and Casualty Details
Four people were assessed by ambulance staff at the roadside following the collision. Two men received treatment for injuries not believed to be serious and were transported to New Cross Hospital for further precautionary checks.
The remaining two individuals were discharged at the scene after assessment. Despite the severity of the vehicle damage, all injuries were reported as minor.
While delays have eased from earlier in the day, motorists should still expect approximately 10-minute delays with around one mile of congestion in both directions. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or seek alternative routes where possible.
