Drivers on the M6 motorway are facing severe disruption this morning after a major collision involving multiple vehicles forced a complete closure of the northbound carriageway.
Traffic Held Following Serious Incident
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 19, 2025. National Highways West Midlands announced the collision on the social media platform X just before 7am.
In an official statement, they confirmed: "Traffic is being held on the #M6 northbound between J8 (#M5) and J9 (#Wednesbury) due to a collision involving multiple vehicles."
Emergency services responded immediately, with West Midlands Police already on the scene and West Midlands Ambulance Service en route at the time of the initial alert.
Extensive Delays and Congestion Building
According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the accident has resulted in long delays of approximately 75 minutes for motorists.
The collision has blocked three lanes on the M6 Northbound at J8 for the M5. The resulting congestion is severe, stretching all the way back to J6, the Spaghetti Junction.
To manage the situation, traffic is being filtered past the scene via the M5 entry slip road as it meets the M6. However, National Highways is still advising all drivers to expect significant delays and to consider alternative routes if possible.
Ongoing Situation and Travel Advice
This is a developing incident, and authorities are working to clear the scene and reopen the motorway. The closure affects a critical stretch of the Midlands motorway network, causing widespread disruption to the morning commute.
Drivers planning to use the M6 northbound this morning are strongly urged to allow extra time for their journeys or seek an alternative route to avoid the area entirely.
