M6 Crash: Two Injured, Major Delays After Collision

Major M6 Collision Causes Widespread Disruption

A significant multi-vehicle collision on the M6 motorway during the Wednesday morning rush hour resulted in two people being injured and severe travel delays stretching for miles.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:25 am on Wednesday, November 19, on the M6 northbound between junction 8 for the M5 and junction 9 for Wednesbury.

Emergency Response and Injuries

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed they were called to the scene at 6.24am following reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision.

A spokesperson for the service detailed that two ambulances and a paramedic officer were dispatched. Upon arrival, crews discovered that the accident involved three cars, a lorry, and a van.

Fortunately, the injuries sustained were not believed to be serious. Two men received treatment at the scene before being transported to Walsall Manor Hospital for further care.

Severe Traffic Chaos and Delays

The crash led to the closure of three out of four lanes, causing massive disruption during the morning commute. Traffic monitoring systems reported eight miles of congestion on the M6 and a further seven miles of queues on the M5.

National Highways West Midlands issued a warning on social media platform X, alerting drivers to severe delays of approximately 90 minutes.

While all lanes have since been reopened, residual delays were expected to last for some time. Data from traffic monitoring site Inrix indicated that slow traffic persisted, with congestion on the M6 northbound tailing back to junction 5 at Castle Bromwich. Southbound queues were also affected, reaching back to junction 10A for the M54 interchange due to onlookers. The M5 experienced very long queues extending to junction 2 at Oldbury.
