Tragic Collision Claims Life in Leominster

A 62-year-old man has tragically died after the bin lorry he was travelling in crashed into a house in Leominster. The fatal incident occurred on Tuesday, 11 November, on Mill Street, prompting a major emergency response.

Emergency Services Rush to the Scene

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the area just before 7am, arriving to find what they described as a 'significant' road traffic collision. The bin lorry had collided with a property, causing the building to partially collapse. Three men were trapped inside the vehicle.

Due to the severe structural damage to the house, emergency crews worked rapidly together to safely extricate the patients. Sadly, despite their efforts, the 62-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Appeal for Witnesses Launched

The driver of the lorry, a 50-year-old man, and a second passenger, aged 47, were both airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with serious injuries. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police confirmed that both men remain in hospital in a stable condition and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now investigating the circumstances of the crash. PC Paul Bosley stated: "Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the man who passed away yesterday, as well as everyone else affected by the incident."

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the bin lorry travelling along Mill Street towards the roundabout with Bridge Street around 6.40am to come forward. They are also keen to obtain any relevant dashcam or CCTV footage. The building was confirmed to have been empty and unoccupied at the time.

The public is being asked to continue avoiding the area while local authorities work to make the damaged structure safe.
