A man has lost his life and two teenage girls have sustained severe injuries following a devastating crash in Haslingden. Emergency services were dispatched to Helmshore Road at 11:49 pm on Monday, May 4, after reports of a collision at the junction with Dean Road. Officers arrived to discover that a VW Golf, traveling southbound on Helmshore Road, had veered off the road and struck the side of a residential property.
Victims and Injuries
The driver, a man in his 20s, sustained multiple injuries and was tragically pronounced dead in hospital. Two 18-year-old girls who were passengers in the vehicle suffered severe injuries and remain in hospital receiving treatment. Lancashire Police confirmed that specially trained officers are providing support to the families involved.
Road Closure and Investigation
The road between Haslingden and Helmshore was closed for over eight hours while investigators carried out their enquiries. Sergeant Anthony Beckett of the Roads Policing Unit said: "My thoughts first and foremost are very much with the family and loved ones of the driver who has very sadly passed away, and with the girls as they receive care and treatment in hospital. This was a collision with horrendous consequences, and as we investigate what happened, we are appealing to the public for assistance."
