The Met Office has said that Sunday will begin with a 'sunny start' for parts of the UK, with temperatures reaching up to 24C. However, it will become 'increasingly wet' as 'intense' rain brings 'heavy downpours' to some areas.
Forecast Details
In a daily forecast video, Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan explained: 'After what was quite a cool and unsettled day on Saturday, today does promise to be quite a bit warmer for most of us. It's a mostly sunny start to the day in some eastern parts of Scotland, eastern parts of England as well.' He added that while sunshine would become hazy, it should remain largely dry and bright into the afternoon.
A yellow weather warning was in place across 10 parts of the UK on Saturday due to 'unseasonably strong winds'. Morgan noted that while a 'keen southerly breeze' was still present, it was 'not as strong' and would help to 'lift temperatures'. Many parts of England are expected to see highs between 19C and 22C, with East Anglia potentially reaching 24C.
Rain and Heavy Downpours
However, Morgan warned it would turn 'increasingly wet for many' heading into the evening. Rain will 'continue to spread erratically and slowly south-eastwards across into England and Wales' overnight. He highlighted that yellow and orange areas on the map indicate rain that will be 'quite intense for a short period of time, some quite heavy downpours possible'.
The Met Office said rain would continue to move across southern and eastern England on Monday, turning 'heavy at times'. Elsewhere, it would be 'brighter, with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers'.
Unsettled Week Ahead
Things are set to remain 'unsettled' on Tuesday and Wednesday, with 'sunshine and heavy showers'. There is also 'potential for widespread rain to return on Thursday', meaning it will be 'rather cool and blustery for the time of year'.
