The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covering 42 areas of the United Kingdom. Meteorologists have forecast that isolated intense thunderstorms could affect many parts of Britain today, Tuesday, May 26.
The weather alert will be in effect for seven hours, from 3pm until 10pm. According to the Met Office, the thunderstorms could bring frequent lightning, large hail, gusty winds, and the potential for 30 mm of rain in less than an hour. However, many areas will remain hot and sunny.
Potential Disruptions
The Met Office stated: "Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services. There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds," the warning added.
