New motorhome and campervan restrictions will come into effect in England from July 6, as Redcar and Cleveland Council implements measures to manage large vehicle parking along Marine Parade. The changes aim to balance the needs of local residents and visiting motorhome users, following concerns about extended parking periods.
Key Details of the New Rules
From July 6, motorhomes will only be allowed to park in designated marked bays on the north side of Marine Parade. These bays will have a maximum stay of four hours, with no return permitted within four hours of the initial period. The restriction applies Monday to Saturday between 09:00 and 17:00. Outside these hours and on Sundays, no time limits will apply in the marked bays.
Motorhomes will be prohibited at all times from parking on unmarked sections on both sides of Marine Parade, which will be indicated by single yellow lines and signage. Other vehicles can still park in these areas without restriction.
The measures do not introduce a complete ban on overnight parking, but they limit where motorhomes can park and the duration of their stay. No new parking charges are being introduced.
Council Statement
Cllr Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "We have listened to feedback from both householders in Saltburn and motorhome owners who wish to spend time visiting the town. The new restrictions will provide an area for motorhomes to park while introducing a time limit on how long they can stay, helping to ensure parking spaces remain available for residents and visitors alike."
He added: "We recognise that people hold strong views on this issue and that is precisely why we are introducing the measures through an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order. We will continue listening to residents, businesses and visitors throughout the trial period, carefully considering any comments, concerns and evidence before deciding on the long-term future of the scheme."
