New Car Tax Bands A to M: Full List of Charges from Next Week
A comprehensive list of new car tax bands and charges set to be implemented from next week has been unveiled, with drivers facing fees of up to £700 for certain vehicles. The changes affect cars registered between 2001 and 2017, with specific rates for those registered after April 2017.
First-Year Tax Based on CO2 Emissions
Cars registered after April 2017 will incur a first-year tax that is directly tied to their CO2 emissions. Following this initial period, a standard car tax applies from the second year onwards, currently set at £195. For those paying tax on their car for the first time, the first-year Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rates are detailed below.
Higher Charges for Non-Compliant Diesel Cars
According to Auto Trader, drivers of diesel cars that do not meet the Real Driving Emissions 2 (RDE2) standards will face higher first-year VED payments. This means their tax bracket will be elevated by one band rate compared to RDE2-compliant diesel vehicles. Notably, all diesel cars failing to meet RDE2 standards with CO2 emissions exceeding 226g/km will be subject to a VED of £5,490.
