A van has plunged off a clifftop beside a well-known UK beach this morning, prompting a major emergency response. The incident occurred in the Marsden area of South Shields, near the coastline, at around 6:30am on Wednesday.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Police and emergency services were called to the Marsden area of South Shields at approximately 6:30am following concerns for a person. Images show Northumbria Police officers at the cliff edge, with a significant emergency services presence remaining at the scene. Tynemouth RNLI and HM Coastguard were among the first to arrive, later joined by Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, and the North East Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for Tynemouth RNLI confirmed: "We can confirm the Tynemouth RNLI launched this morning to a multi-agency call."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to the Marsden area at 6:10am following concerns for a person. We dispatched a clinical team leader and one ambulance crew."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: "At 6am today (Wednesday), we received a report of a concern for welfare near the A183 Coast Road in South Shields. Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing."
