Birmingham city centre residents are being kept awake until 4am by overnight New Street repaving works. The pedestrian paving works near Victoria Square have been ongoing since last month, and locals living in flats above the street say it is proving impossible to sleep at night.
Residents Express Frustration
One resident told BirminghamLive: "It is impossible to sleep, even with the windows closed, due to the noise. I can hear a jackhammer outside my window." The construction includes demolition, cutting, hammering, and forklift operations. Another resident added: "These are major works and should be carried out during the day, not at night."
Contractor Responds
Contractor CPC Civils has apologised for the disruption. The firm confirmed that measures have been put in place to avoid breaking-out activities after 10pm. Birmingham City Council failed to respond to requests for comment.
