West Midlands Police has spent more than £15 million repairing its fleet over the past seven years after nearly 4,000 vehicles were involved in road traffic collisions.
Crash Statistics
A freedom of information request revealed that 3,970 police vehicles were involved in road traffic collisions between 2019 and 2025. During this period, 342 vehicles were written off completely due to the extent of damage sustained.
2025 Repair Costs
In 2025 alone, the force spent £2,235,432 on repairs to cars and vans. This figure could be even higher as some repair work may not yet have been completed. Interestingly, 2025 saw fewer police vehicle crashes than in previous years, despite the substantial repair costs.
The total damage bill across all seven years reached £15,096,790.
Force Statement
A force spokesperson said: "Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete." They added that data limitations should be considered when interpreting the figures.
The figures highlight the significant financial burden of maintaining West Midlands Police's operational vehicle fleet.
