Racecourse Lane in Stourbridge has reopened to through traffic today (September 25), ending a six-week closure that followed last month's tragic fires. The road had been shut since the incidents, with tree felling and demolition works carried out during the closure.
MP thanks residents for patience
Cat Eccles, MP for Stourbridge, confirmed the reopening and thanked those who endured the disruption. "Racecourse Lane is now back open to through traffic," she said. "Thank you to everyone for your patience while the road was closed and for their understanding during what has been a difficult time for local residents."
The MP also appealed to motorists to be considerate as normal traffic flows resume. "As traffic returns to normal, I would also like to respectfully ask everyone to be mindful of the people who live on Racecourse Lane and in the surrounding area," Eccles added.
Security concerns during closure
During the extended closure, Eccles raised concerns about unauthorised individuals operating in the area. She reported issues with "contractors" gaining access under false pretences. "There have been some issues with 'contractors' getting in under the guise of working at a property but actually just touting for business door to door," she said.
In response, Dudley Council funded private security guards from K2 security to protect the road. Eccles explained the financial arrangement to Stourbridge News: "The road security is being paid by the council and they'll seek to get that money back from the government via the emergency funding."
Residents urged to be given space
Eccles emphasised the distress experienced by local residents during the ordeal. "Residents have endured an extremely distressing period, and they deserve the opportunity to enjoy their privacy and go about their daily lives without unnecessary disturbance," she said. "Thank you for your cooperation and consideration. Please continue to drive carefully and treat local residents with the respect they deserve."
With the road now open, traffic can once again flow freely through Stourbridge, marking the end of a challenging period for the community.
