Post Office services in two Midland towns are set to face disruption as the TG Jones stores housing them prepare to close. The TG Jones branches at Ventura Retail Park in Tamworth and the Gracechurch Centre in Sutton Coldfield are among around 150 stores shutting down nationwide, and both sites contain Post Office branches. Sourcing replacement sites could take several months, according to the Post Office.
Closure dates confirmed
The Tamworth store is due to close on Friday, October 9, and the Sutton Coldfield outlet on Saturday, January 9. The Ventura Post Office, however, will close earlier, on Wednesday, September 30, ahead of the store shutdown. The TG Jones shop has already started its closing down sale, with its closure also seeing the Post Office shut and in need of a new home in Sutton Coldfield.
A spokesman for TG Jones said: "As part of our work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed both our Sutton Coldfield and Tamworth stores will close. We appreciate this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers and the local communities. Our priority now is on supporting those affected colleagues while continuing to serve our customers until the store closes. We would like to thank our colleagues for their valued contributions to TG Jones."
Post Office response and alternatives
The Post Office said it could take six months to open alternative facilities. A Post Office spokeswoman said: "We fully recognise the challenging trading conditions that TG Jones and many other High Street retailers are facing at the moment. TG Jones had its restructuring plan approved by the High Court on July 1. Regrettably, Ventura Park Post Office is due to close on Wednesday, September 30. Consequently, TG Jones is to close its Sutton Coldfield store and Ventura Park Post Office. We know how important our products and services are to the local community.
"Sutton Coldfield Post Office is due to close in early 2027. The date is being finalised. We are now looking more closely at the expressions of interest for both sites. We want to open a replacement branch as soon as possible, but this can take around six months. In the interim alternative branches include Fazeley and Bolehal in Tamworth. Alternatives in Sutton Coldfield are Reddicap Heath, Whitehouse Common, Boldmere and Falcon Lodge."
Impact on local communities
The closures will affect residents who rely on Post Office services for everyday transactions, including banking, bill payments, and parcel services. The interim alternatives listed by the Post Office aim to provide some continuity, but the potential six-month gap could leave some communities without convenient access. The TG Jones restructuring plan was approved by the High Court on July 1, and the company has confirmed its priority is supporting affected colleagues while continuing to serve customers until the stores close.
