Emergency Response to City Centre Tunnel Incident
A man has sustained serious injuries following a significant road traffic collision in a Birmingham city centre tunnel this morning. The incident occurred on St Chad's Queensway at 8.45am today, Friday, November 21.
Emergency services were swiftly dispatched to the scene after reports of a single-vehicle collision. The West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it sent two ambulances to deal with the incident.
Patient Treatment and Hospital Transfer
Upon arrival, paramedics located one male patient. They provided immediate treatment at the scene for what were described as potentially serious injuries.
The man was then transported urgently to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further specialist care. His current condition has not been disclosed.
A spokeswoman for the ambulance service stated: "We were called to reports of a one-vehicle collision on St Chad's Queensway in Birmingham at 8.45am and sent two ambulances to the scene. On arrival, crews found a man who they treated for potentially serious injuries before conveying him to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital."
Major Traffic Disruption for Commuters
The crash has caused significant travel disruption during the Friday morning rush hour. West Midlands Roads issued an alert on the social media platform X, warning motorists of the situation.
The post read: "A38 St Chad's Queensway Road traffic collision. Congestion on approach plan ahead."
Drivers were strongly advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to consider using alternative routes where possible to avoid the severe congestion building up around the city centre tunnel.
