Britain is set to bask in a sweltering 27C next week, with certain parts of the country expected to be hotter than Greece. More than a dozen regions are forecast to see the scorching sunshine as UK weather maps turn orange from next week.
Temperature Forecast
Charts from WXCharts, using MetDesk data, reveal that 16 regions will be warmer than Greece as temperatures climb through the 20s. On Friday, 22 May, much of England, Scotland and Wales will exceed 20C, with spring warmth arriving in full force. The hottest conditions will hit the capital, with London anticipated to reach 27C just before the weekend, reports the Express.
Elsewhere across the south of England, temperatures will also sit comfortably in the mid-20s, with Hertfordshire, Essex and Suffolk all climbing to 25C. Further north, Cheshire and Manchester are also likely to enjoy some warmth, with temperatures reaching 23C. Scotland's North East region of Grampian is also predicted to hit 22C, according to the charts.
Regions Hotter Than Greece
WXCharts has forecast that the hottest part of Greece will reach 25C, meaning numerous areas across England will actually be warmer. The 16 regions expected to be hotter than Greece include:

Met Office Outlook
According to the Met Office's long-range forecast, May is due to turn "rather warm". The forecast for 17 to 26 May states: "As this period progresses, high pressure is likely to begin to build from the south bringing more in the way of settled weather. Temperatures likely cooler than average to begin, but tending to recover as the period progresses, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period, especially in the south."
Should temperatures remain between 25C and 28C, a heatwave could be announced in the UK. The benchmark for a heatwave differs across the country, with temperatures requiring to hit 28C in the south.
