Summer holidays from the UK to Spain and Portugal face disruption as the government prepares for a potential jet fuel crisis. According to I News, the Labour Party government is developing contingency plans for the upcoming summer season.
The crisis stems from ongoing conflict in Iran, which threatens jet fuel supplies. European officials have warned of a very serious crisis that could impact travel plans for millions of Britons who fly to Europe annually, with Spain and Portugal among the most popular destinations.
EU Warns of Holiday Disruptions
Dan Jorgensen, the EU energy commissioner, told Sky News: Unfortunately, it's very likely that many people's holidays will be affected, either by flight cancellations or very, very expensive tickets. Even if we do everything we can, if the jet fuel is not there, then it's not there.
Jorgensen added: Currently it is primarily a crisis of prices and not yet a crisis of supply, but unfortunately, we cannot be sure to prevent a supply crisis, especially on jet fuel, if the conflict continues. He warned that even in the best-case scenario, the price crisis will last for quite some time.

Pierluigi di Palma from Italy's Civil Aviation Authority advised: It is best to recommend holidays nearby, rediscovering beautiful places in our country. For those who still want to risk a long trip, it's a good idea to consider special insurance that guarantees a refund in case of delayed or cancelled flights.
A UK government spokesperson stated that while airlines are not currently seeing a shortage of jet fuel, they are continuing to work with fuel suppliers, airlines, and international counterparts to keep flights operating, as well as planning for a range of contingencies.
