The UK Foreign Office has issued a warning for UK tourists planning to visit Switzerland from June 15, 2026, due to the upcoming G7 Summit. The advisory, updated on the Foreign Office website, includes the "addition of information about G7 Summit and related disruption."
G7 Summit Details and Travel Impact
The G7 Summit will take place in Evian, France, from June 15 to 17, 2026. Many attendees will transit through Geneva, Switzerland. In preparation, Swiss authorities plan to close several border crossings with France around the summit dates, leading to severe delays at remaining open crossings. The Foreign Office advises travelers to plan their journeys carefully and consider avoiding travel between France and Switzerland on these dates if possible.
Protests and Security Measures
Swiss authorities have permitted a protest linked to the G7 in central Geneva on the afternoon of Sunday, June 14. There may also be other unauthorized protest activity from June 12 to 19. The Foreign Office urges tourists to stay away from protest areas and follow authorities' instructions. The Republic and Canton of Geneva provides further information on Swiss preparations for the summit.
Military Cooperation and Security
Switzerland has agreed to a military cooperation plan with France for the summit, focusing on security around Lake Geneva and its airspace. The Swiss army will deploy approximately 4,000 troops within its territory during the event. The government stated that "against a backdrop of heightened global tensions, the summit requires the implementation of exceptional security measures, including within Swiss territory." The G7 summit, organized by France, will bring together leaders from G7 member countries, the EU, and other invited heads of state and government.
