UK Weather Maps Show 29C May Heatwave Across 19 Counties

New UK weather maps indicate that temperatures could surge to a hot 29C across the country in the coming days, with 19 counties set to bask in the heat over the bank holiday weekend.

According to weather maps from WX Charts, balmy highs are forecast for a number of areas. The ECMWF weather model suggests that the mercury could reach 27C in and around London on Saturday, May 23. There could also be highs of 25C in East Anglia and 22C in the Midlands.

Warming Trend Continues

Conditions are expected to warm further, with highs of 28C in the south east of England on Sunday, May 24. London is once again predicted to see the best of the weather, with highs of 24C or 25C expected across most of southern and central England.

The upcoming bank holiday on Monday, May 25, looks set to be the warmest of the three days. According to the ECMWF model, maximum possible temperatures of 29C could be seen in southern and eastern England. Highs of 25C could reach as far north as Lincolnshire, as reported by the Mirror.

Regional Variations

For those in Scotland and Northern Ireland, the model suggests temperatures will struggle to reach 20C. However, highs of 22C or 23C are possible in parts of Wales. The data indicates that 19 counties in England could see temperatures of 25C or above across the extended bank holiday weekend.

The Met Office has stated that high pressure from the south could 'quickly start to build' as we head towards the bank holiday weekend, bringing 'fine and dry conditions' and rising temperatures. In its forecast for May 20 to May 29, it said: 'Thereafter, high pressure is expected to broadly remain the dominant influence across much of the UK, with spells of fine weather. Low pressure will be positioned to the north, and will at times allow some rain or showers to cross the country. Overall across the period, temperatures are expected to be above normal with winds often light for many.'
