Met Office Confirms Date Next UK Heatwave Starts

The Met Office and BBC Weather have confirmed the exact date the next UK heatwave will begin, with the southeast of England expected to experience the highest temperatures. The heat is forecast to return as early as this weekend, on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5.

Met Office Forecast

Tony Wisson, a Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, stated: “Toward the weekend, high pressure will continue to build in across most of the UK as it extends from the Azores. This will lead to more settled, warm or very warm conditions for many, especially across England and Wales, though some rain may still affect the far north.”

He added: “The forecast for this weekend suggests that temperatures could approach high 20s°C across parts of England, perhaps 30°C in parts of the southeast, with values of mid to high 20s°C in Wales. Although a return to heatwave conditions is looking increasingly likely for some areas, the likelihood of such extreme high temperatures or high levels of humidity as last week is currently low.”

BBC Weather Predictions

The BBC has echoed these predictions, noting that high pressure will try to build from the southwest. The BBC stated: “This could lead to mostly dry weather across southern and eastern regions of the UK, with temperatures perhaps rising a notch, above the early July average. However, Atlantic frontal systems should bring bouts of rain or showers to the northern and western UK, with near-seasonal temperatures most likely here.”

In its outlook for Wednesday, July 1, the BBC forecast says: “A calmer day with sunshine in the east to start. Becoming cloudier and windier towards the west as the day progresses with blustery rain in northern areas to end the day.” For Thursday to Saturday, the outlook adds: “Thursday will be windy, mainly north, with areas of cloud and spells of sunshine. The odd spot of rain is possible towards north-west Scotland and far south England. Friday will be cloudy in the north with spells of rain for western Scotland. Further south should be drier with sunny spells. Cloudy with showers in the north-west on Saturday, but drier elsewhere. Warmer.”

Impact on Regions

The southeast of England is expected to be the worst-hit region, with temperatures potentially reaching 30°C. Other parts of England and Wales will also experience warm conditions, with temperatures in the mid to high 20s°C. Northern and western areas of the UK are likely to see more rain and near-seasonal temperatures.
