Funding for High-Growth Businesses in West Midlands

New funding is now available to support high-growth businesses in the West Midlands, aiming to drive innovation and create jobs. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF) have launched a £5.5 million programme to provide loans and equity investments to companies with high growth potential.

Details of the Funding

The programme offers investments ranging from £25,000 to £250,000, targeting businesses in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences, digital technology, and clean energy. The funding is part of the government's Levelling Up agenda, designed to boost economic growth outside London and the South East.

According to WMCA, the funding will help businesses scale up, create new products, and enter new markets. The programme is managed by the MEIF, which has already supported over 200 businesses in the region since its launch in 2017.

Impact on the Region

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: "This funding is a vital tool to help our most promising businesses grow and create jobs. It will support the region's recovery from the pandemic and build a more resilient economy."

Businesses in the West Midlands can apply for funding through the MEIF website. The programme is expected to create up to 500 new jobs over the next three years, according to WMCA estimates.

Eligibility and Application

To be eligible, businesses must be based in the West Midlands, have a clear growth plan, and demonstrate potential for job creation. The funding can be used for capital investment, research and development, or working capital.

The programme is part of a wider £250 million MEIF fund, which covers the entire Midlands region. Since its inception, the MEIF has invested over £100 million in businesses across the Midlands, supporting more than 2,000 jobs.
