Redditch-based logistics and supply chain solutions provider AMCO has announced a substantial investment of around £2 million to significantly upgrade its operational fleet. The company has acquired twelve brand-new Mercedes Actros trucks, representing a major commitment to modernising its transport capabilities and supporting future business growth.
Expanding Fleet and Enhancing Capabilities
This strategic acquisition brings AMCO's total fleet size to an impressive 73 vehicles, complemented by 95 trailers. The investment underscores the firm's ambitious plans to expand its portfolio of clients, which already includes prominent high-street retailers and luxury automotive brands. By integrating these state-of-the-art trucks, AMCO aims to strengthen its position as a leading provider of bespoke contract transport solutions across the United Kingdom.
Focus on Driver Comfort and Safety
Mark Jones, AMCO's Fleet Director, emphasised the critical importance of this upgrade. "As our business continues to grow and regulatory compliance becomes increasingly stringent, maintaining a modern fleet is absolutely essential," he stated. "This investment reflects our unwavering commitment to both serving our customers effectively and ensuring the highest levels of safety and comfort for our dedicated drivers."
The new Mercedes Actros trucks are equipped with premium features designed specifically for long-haul operations. These include quilted leather seats, a luxury bed complete with a mattress topper, and an under-bunk refrigerator. Such amenities are particularly valuable for drivers working around the clock on contracts with AMCO's blue-chip partners.
Advanced Technology and Environmental Compliance
The vehicles boast cutting-edge technology that enhances both efficiency and safety. Key features include:
- A sophisticated multimedia cockpit for improved driver interface.
- Active Brake Assist systems to prevent collisions.
- Smart MirrorCam technology, which replaces traditional mirrors to improve aerodynamics and reduce fuel consumption.
- Intelligent GPS driver programmes that further optimise fuel efficiency.
Purchased from Midland Truck & Van, the 2025 Mercedes Benz Truck Dealer of the Year, these trucks are fully compliant with all UK Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) regulations. They are also fitted with the advanced 'Progress' safe system, which includes radar-enabled pedestrian warnings, nearside cameras, and audible alerts. The mirrorless camera systems ensure the vehicles meet the requirements for operating within London's Direct Vision Standard (DVS) zone.
Commitment to Industry Excellence
AMCO's dedication to safety and operational standards is further demonstrated by its accreditation under the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency's (DVSA) Earned Recognition Scheme. The company is one of only 136 businesses in the UK to achieve this status, having met rigorous criteria over a two-year assessment period.
Justin Miller, AMCO's Group Deputy Managing Director, highlighted the company's holistic approach. "We pride ourselves on maintaining a long-standing and loyal driver workforce, which is a testament to our focus on providing an excellent working environment," he explained. "From the quality of our vehicles and our people management practices to our purpose-built, modern facility at AMCO Park, where our 24/7, 365-day operations are based, every element is designed with excellence in mind. This latest vehicle investment is a core part of that ethos, enabling us to continue and expand the solutions-oriented service our customers value and expect."
This significant fleet enhancement positions AMCO to better serve its diverse client base while reinforcing its commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainable growth within the competitive logistics sector.
