Cussins, the Alnwick-based housebuilder established in 1922, has reported resilient trading for the six months ended September 2025, driven by what directors describe as “robust” demand. The family-run company, known for creating homes across the North East, particularly in Newcastle and Northumberland, posted a turnover of £18.86 million and an operating profit of £1.34 million. Profit after taxation stood at £679,662.
Partnership with Northumberland Estates Ends
The accounts cover a period that saw the formation of Cussins Homes Ltd in April 2025, marking the exit of Northumberland Estates, the Duke of Northumberland’s business, which had held a minority stake since 2016. Directors thanked Northumberland Estates for their “significant contribution to the group’s growth during their time as shareholders.” CEO Jabin Cussins stated, “The partnership has proven to be mutually successful and highly beneficial. We have enjoyed working with the team at Northumberland Estates and look forward to seeing their continued success.”
Sales Performance and Delays
Despite strong underlying demand, the company experienced external timing delays within sales chains, which impacted figures. During the period, Cussins operated across six development sites, achieving 56 new home completions. Jabin Cussins noted, “While these figures were slightly below our initial projections, due to external timing delays within sales chains, the underlying demand for our product remains robust. These delayed completions concluded in the early part of the current financial year, strengthening our pipeline for 2026.”
New Developments and Strong Sales
The business secured its first legal completions at Debdon Falls in Rothbury, Northumberland, and at Eccleston Park in Backworth, North Tyneside. It also started development at Sycamore Place in Barrasford, Northumberland. Meanwhile, initial sales at Holborn Riverside in South Shields have been “exceptionally strong,” with all homes in the first phase sold well in advance of expectations. The company is working with South Tyneside Council on this contemporary riverside apartment project.
Future Plans
Jabin Cussins added, “As we prepare for the 100-home second phase in early 2026, the project continues to serve as a flagship for our team’s creative, technical and delivery capabilities. In close collaboration with South Tyneside Council, this key regional regeneration project harmonises contemporary residential design with South Shields’ rich maritime heritage.” He emphasised that the company’s strategic focus on acquiring high-quality development sites has proven effective, positively impacting future growth. Cussins employs 61 staff.
