Truespeed names Nelson Missier as new chief executive

Bath-based broadband challenger Truespeed has revealed a significant leadership change, with current Chief Commercial Officer Nelson Missier stepping up to become Chief Executive Officer.

A Seamless Leadership Transition

Nelson Missier will officially assume the role at the end of 2025, taking over from outgoing CEO James Lowther, who is departing the company after four years at the helm. The transition marks a strategic internal promotion for the rapidly growing telecommunications provider.

Mr Missier brings substantial industry expertise to the position, boasting more than twenty years of experience within the telecom sector. His impressive career includes senior positions such as Managing Director for Europe at Storytel and Commercial Director for Tele2 in Sweden. Previous roles also saw him contribute to industry giants including Booz & Company, BT Group, and Vodafone India.

Building on Strong Foundations

In his statement, the incoming CEO acknowledged the substantial contributions of his predecessor. "I would like to thank James for leading us to a strong position with significant customer and financial growth over the last four years," Mr Missier said. He credited Mr Lowther with being pivotal to scaling up Truespeed from a South West start-up into a fast-growing company known for its collaborative culture and top-tier capabilities.

Mr Lowther's tenure, which began in December 2021, witnessed remarkable expansion. Under his leadership, Truespeed's customer base surged from 9,000 to 41,000 subscribers. Furthermore, the company's infrastructure reach expanded dramatically, growing from 31,000 to 177,000 Ready-For-Service premises.

Confidence in Future Growth

Expressing enthusiasm for his new role, Mr Missier highlighted the company's strong market position. "I am excited to lead the business as we continue to deliver truly better broadband to our customers in the South West and East of England," he stated. He pointed to the company's challenger brand status, exceptional product, and committed team as key assets for driving future customer base growth and profitability.

The outgoing CEO expressed full confidence in his successor, noting that Mr Missier had played a "significant part" in the company's recent success. "He is a highly capable leader who has been at the heart of driving the development of Truespeed into the excellent brand we have today," Mr Lowther commented, adding that he was "delighted to be passing the baton" and had "every confidence" that the business would continue to advance rapidly.

Truespeed Chair Clarke Osborne echoed these sentiments, thanking Mr Lowther for his transformative work while emphasising the board's confidence in Mr Missier's readiness for the CEO role. "We are very fortunate that Nelson Missier, a senior member of the Truespeed Executive team, has the experience, capability and motivation to step seamlessly into the role of CEO," Mr Osborne stated.
