A long-established carpentry and joinery business based in Suffolk has entered administration, bringing an end to fifteen years of trading. Administrators were formally appointed to A.L.N. Carpentry & Joinery in Newmarket on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026.
Services and Project Legacy
The company, which specialised in a range of carpentry services, has ceased operations. According to its website, the firm's work encompassed flooring installation, structural joists, roof truss construction, decking, and external cladding projects.
Regional Reach and Notable Contracts
Its operational footprint extended across East Anglia and South East England. Among its completed projects were significant local developments, including work at Peter O'Sullevan House, a rehabilitation centre for injured jockeys located in Newmarket, and student accommodation facilities at the prestigious King's College, Cambridge.
Administration Appointment
David Kemp and Richard Hunt, both of Exigen Group Ltd, have been named as the joint administrators responsible for handling the company's affairs following its collapse into administration.
This business failure occurs against a backdrop of wider industrial closures. In a separate but contemporaneous development, the Mossmorran plant in Fife, Scotland, was permanently shut down on February 2nd after forty years of operation. That facility, which processed North Sea gas, saw its owner, ExxonMobil, inform approximately 400 employees of the closure decision in November of the previous year.
Reaction to Mossmorran Closure
Unite union general secretary Sharon Graham strongly criticised the oil and gas plant's closure, labelling it "a disgrace and a betrayal of its workers" and highlighting the impact on the local community in Fife. A spokesperson for ExxonMobil confirmed the permanent shutdown and outlined that decommissioning work is anticipated to continue until early 2028.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer had previously noted the plant was operating at a significant weekly loss. A Government spokesperson stated that all reasonable avenues of support had been explored for the Mossmorran site and emphasised ongoing efforts to support affected workers, including facilitating job interviews at an alternative facility.
