Bosco Italian Restaurant Launches First Welsh Venue in Cardiff with Expansion Plans
Italian restaurant venture Bosco has officially opened its inaugural Welsh location in the heart of Cardiff, marking a significant step in its growth strategy. The new restaurant, situated on High Street, has been bolstered by a substantial £350,000 loan from the £130 million Investment Fund for Wales (IFW), managed by the Development Bank of Wales through its subsidiary FW Capital.
Funding Fuels Ambitious Growth Across Wales
This financial injection has enabled Bosco to undertake a comprehensive refit of the Cardiff premises, aligning the space with its distinctive brand identity while also providing essential working capital. Notably, the loan facilitated an additional seven-figure co-investment from private investors, amplifying the venture's resources.
Joe Cook, Managing Director at Bosco, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, "The new restaurant in Cardiff has already surpassed our expectations. This area of the city boasts an impressive vibrancy and bustling atmosphere, and we have been warmly welcomed." He added, "Growth has always been central to our business plan. This loan allowed us to imprint our brand on the new site with a large-scale refit. Given the Cardiff restaurant's success, we are now confident in our potential in Wales and aim to expand further within the next year and a half."
Strategic Support from Financial Partners
John Babalola, Investment Executive at FW Capital, commented on the strategic move, saying, "Bosco possesses a fantastic brand. Their expansion into one of Cardiff's most popular districts for dining and nightlife was a logical progression. We are pleased our support accelerated the setup of the Cardiff restaurant, and it is rewarding to see it already in high demand."
Bethan Bannister, Senior Investment Manager for Nations and Regions Investment Funds at the British Business Bank, highlighted the broader impact, noting, "We are delighted to see the Investment Fund for Wales backing Bosco, introducing a popular brand to Cardiff. This investment underscores how the fund delivers appropriate finance at crucial moments to assist ambitious businesses in entering new markets, generating employment, and enhancing the vitality of our urban centres."
Background and Future Prospects
Established with its first restaurant in Bristol in 2014, Bosco currently operates four venues across the south-west of England. The successful debut in Cardiff signals the beginning of a broader Welsh expansion, with the company targeting additional locations over the coming 18 months.
The large debt component of the IFW is designed to provide loans ranging from £100,000 to £2 million, offering vital support to businesses like Bosco as they scale operations and contribute to local economic dynamism.
